The declining popularity of the sarangi over the past few decades has been a cause for concern among many musicians and connoisseurs. Concerted efforts from noted maestros have brought the instrument back into public gaze, but, when a talented young musician like Murad Ali Khan takes to sarangi with single-minded devotion, one can rest assured that future generations will also take pleasure in absorbing subtleties that the instrument is capable of producing.   

Born in a family of musicians originally from Moradabad, Murad Ali Khan is a sixth generation sarangi player. The intensive training he had under his grandfather Ustad Siddique Ahmad Khan and father Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan has stood him in good stead, and he is presently regarded as one of the leading sarangi players of the younger generation. His ancestors, Ustad Sagheer Ahmed Khan Sahab, Ustad Fakir Ahmed Khan Sahib, Ustad Rafique Ahmed Khan Sahab and his grandfather later Ustad Siddique Ahmed Khan Sahib were all renowned sarangi players, musicologists and gurus of the Moradabad Gharana. Beginning his performing career at the early age of 10, MURAD ALI KHAN won the first prize in the All India Radio national music competition held in 1992. He is also a Top Grade artiste from All India Radio, New Delhi.  He has also been a frequent performer at several music festivals in India and abroad. He has received accolades for his accompaniment to many noted vocalists and tabla players. Unfettered by orthodox musical beliefs, 

Murad Ali Khan has participated in several occasions cross-cultural and experimental musical endeavours. He had an honor and privledge of playing sarangi for  Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar jiAnd got Pt. Ravi shankar ji's Blessings. Murad Ali Khan also has composed Music for his own Band Called SOUL- SAMVAAD and " 7 ESSENCE  " A Classical Music and Dance Group...  

It is an honour & privilege to name 2 Great Maestro of our country  Bharat who have played a great role in Murad Ali Khan 's musical journey (Padmashri Smt. Shubha Mudgal ji and Padmabhushan Ustad Rashid Khan Sahab). Shubha ji has always been like a mentor , Murad has also been associated in many collaboration and Rare Projects with Shubha Mudgal Ji,    also recorded his sarangi for international Film for background music like Dance of the Wind, music by Shubha Mudgal,  both Shubha ji and Rashid Bhai have always encouraged Murad on stage,It is a blessing to have such great Maestros in Murad's musical journey who have  been so encouraging and so supportive. Murad has done Various Musical Albums with Shubha Mudgal and Ustad Rashid Khan which has been highly appreciated by Music Connoisseur. Murad Ali Khan also been fortunate to accompany with Almost all Great Maestros of India like Pt. Ajoy Chakrobarty,  Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan,  Padma Vibhushan Smt Girja Devi Ji,  Vidhushi Ashwini Bhide, Ustad Zakir Hussain,  Pt. Swapan Chaudhary , Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Ustad Sabir Khan,  Ustad Akram Khan and many more great stalwarts. He has also recorded his Sarangi Music for Bollywood & Hollywood Films like: Khamosh pani by: Sabiha Samar. Music By: Shri Madan Gopal  , Dance of the Wind By: Rajan Khosa. Music By: Smt Shubha Mudgal ji.
